Like pasta, tiramisu and cappuccino, pizza
is a kind of food that people usually think they are come from Italy. But is it
true that pizza originate in Italy?
Basically, pizza is a kind of flat round
dough (生麵團)similar to French crepe (薄烤餅)and Mexican taco (玉米餅). Like the two,
pizza in the old days was a peasant (鄉下人)food, meant for
making use of leftovers before they turn bad.
Some people say that pizza dates back to
the Stone Age(石器時代), but it is not until around 1000
B.C. that the world ‘pizziare’ was used and recorded for the first time. ‘Pizziare’
means ‘to pluck’ (拉; 扯) and it is believed
that the word was used back in those days to refer to ‘plucking hot pies from
an oven’.
Although there are arguments saying that
pizza evolved from Egyptian flatbread instead, most food experts agree that
Italian pizza developed from cooking ideas introduced by the Etruscans to the
north of Rome as well as by the Greeks to the south.
Alright! Hope this wouldn't give you too much appitite and destroy your diet plan! :P
