The Girl Called ‘Black Pearl'

‘Black Pearl’was the nickname I got since I was born. You may wonder its origin and the story behind. Is it related to something mysterious? Or does it symbolize something? That’s a long story to tell.

自我出生，我就被人稱為「黑珍珠」。我猜你一定對其的由來感到好奇。難道它與神秘的事情有所關聯？還是有什麼象徵意義？讓我慢慢告訴你。

First of all, do you know what pearls are? Pearls are cultivated in some soft tissues inside natural or cultured shells. They have been regarded as objects of beauty for many centuries. Since it is difficult to get a shiny and flawless pearl from natural shells, ‘pearl’ symbolizes something that is precious and rare in Chinese traditions. Just like Hong Kong, where is well-known as ‘Pearl of East’.

首先，你們應該知道珍珠是什麼，對嗎?珍珠是在天然或養殖貝類的軟組織內形成，它們一直被視為美麗的象徵，要找一顆明亮無暇的黑珍珠更尤如大海撈針。所謂江漢之珠，珍珠在中國傳統文化中舉足輕重，象徵著人們珍而重之的事物。正如香港這中西薈萃、繁榮穩定的城市，被譽為「東方之珠」。當中的「珠」，有著同樣的喻意。

Haha, maybe I should get back onto the right track. When I was born, I got a darker skin tone,　which was inherited from my father. However, my family and relatives praised that I had an angel face (that means I looked pretty and healthy) regardless the skin tone. That’s why they named me as ‘Black Pearl’ since then. Moreover, they wished that fortune and beauty would follow in my whole life.

好吧，我是時候要回到正題。由於我遺傳了父親的基因，我出生時皮膚也比較黝黑。雖然如此，但我的家人和親友都為我有健全的五官和四肢，以及可愛的天使臉孔而喜上眉梢。（正所謂「情人眼裡出西施」嘛！）再者，他們亦盼望我日後能福杯滿溢，並成為一個亭亭玉立的女孩子。因此，我被命名為「黑珍珠」。
