Shellon? Who?

Have you seen this girl in campus? Well, have you got a minute to know more about her?

It is actually me in the pictures. I am Ng Yuen Shan 吳婉珊, Shellon. I am 19 years old, currently studying a Bachelor of Arts 文學士 at Lingnan University 嶺南大學 and staying in Hostel D.

I live with my parents in Sai Kung and I have an elder brother, who is currently working in Australia. Besides, I own an amazing corgi, which is called Chowski.

I feel so fortunate about being able to live in Sai Kung 西貢 because it is a beautiful, peaceful, and tidy place. I believe these are the reasons why many foreigners 外國人 choose to live there. 

What kind of person am I ?

Many people consider me a "manly girl 富有男子氣慨的女生" because I am nothing like a girl. I do not speak gently , dress like a girl, read fashion magazines, watch Korean series 韓國連續劇, or wear makeup. Instead, I am as decisive, independent, courageous 勇敢的, and adventurous 富冒險精神的 as a man.

I love trying new things, including dangerous things, in order to enrich my life 豐富人生. After all, we do not live forever.

This summer, I hiked to Sheung Luk Stream 雙鹿石澗, a very beautiful and natural stream where you can try cliff diving 懸崖跳水 from a 10 meters high cliff. I jumped off the cliff without hesitation 猶豫 and it astonished my boyfriend.

I want to be able to tell my children how brave and awesome their mum was in the future. 
So, I will continue seizing every chance 捉緊每個機會 to learn and to experience.

"Confident" 自信的 would be a suitable adjective to describe me. I feel comfortable speaking in public, voicing my perspectives 意見 , and talking to strangers, including native speakers. 

I noticed that many students at the University are unwilling and not confident about talking to foreigners, which leave exchange students isolated 孤立的. In this regard, I would take the initiative to talk to exchange students. Not only does it make them feel comfortable, but also makes me skillful in communicating with people from different backgrounds and improves my interpersonal skills 人際關係 . 

Some people would think that I am very good at English; nonetheless, it is not true. If you listen carefully, you will find that I make many grammatical mistakes 文法上的錯誤. But since I speak very confidently and fluently 流暢地 , it gives people an illusion 假象 that I am an excellent English speaker. (So you should be confident too! It fools people!)

This summer I went snorkeling 浮潛, hiking, swimming, camping, kayaking 划獨木舟 , and fishing with my boyfriend. My skin became dark and people always ask me whether I like sports so much. However, the truth is I am always on my computer. (Except this summer)

What do I like to do?

Despite my manly personality and behaviors, I do have some girly hobbies 嚐好.

Baking is one of my hobbies. I like making cookies, cakes, puffs, etc, at my leisure. I even brought the oven 焗爐 from my home (I live in Sai Kung) to the hostel 宿舍 in order to make cupcakes for my new friends. I feel very satisfied 滿足 every time my friends tell me that my desserts are superb一流的 .

Apart from baking, I also like browsing the Internet. 9gag, Youtube, Watch Seriers, CNN, Word Reference Forums are websites that I frequently visit.

9gag is where I learn Internet slangs 網絡俚語. By reading memes (an idea, belief or belief system, or pattern of behavior that spreads throughout a culture either vertically by cultural inheritance or horizontally by cultural acquisition - Urban Dictionary) and seeing viral pictures 網絡瘋傳的照片, I have learnt so much about western cultures and I know what the hot topics are in foreign countries. Although I am just a bystander, I know what is happening in places outside Hong Kong.

On Youtube, I watch parodies 惡搞影片, music videos, and video recipes to kill time 打發時間. I also watch videos in which English speakers share their perspectives towards social issues 社會議題.

I believe that boring education educates students nothing. Therefore, I like learning in entertaining ways, such as watching American series. I never feel bored learning new vocabularies and improving my listening skills in this way. Breaking Bad 絕命毒師, Game of Thrones 權力的遊戲, and Walking Dead 行屍 are my favorite series.

Some people did tell me that I look unfriendly because my lips are born pointing downwards, which makes me look grumpy 性情乖戾的. However, I am actually an approachable 平易近人的 person and I do like making new friends. If you want to know more about me, come wave hi and talk to me!
