BEIJING: A 3000-year-old bronze sword has been discovered in a local riverby an 11-year-old child in east China'sJiangsu Province.

北京:中國江蘇省一名11歲男孩在當地河流中發現了一把有3000年歷史的青銅劍。

Yang Junxi discovered the rusty sword on July 2 when he was playing near the Laozhoulin Riverin Gaoyou County.

楊俊熙(Yang Junxi72號在高郵市老周臨河河邊玩耍時發現了這把生銹的劍。

While washing hands in the river, Yang touched the tip of something hard andfished out the metal sword. He took it home and gave it to his father YangJinhai.

楊在河邊洗手時碰到了尖尖的硬東西,撈出來一看是一把金屬製成的劍。他把劍帶回去交給了父親楊金海Yang Jinhai)。

Upon hearing the news, people began flocking to Yang's home, Jinhai said.

金海說,聽到新聞後,人們蜂擁而至

"Some people even offered high prices to buy the the sword, but I felt it would be illegal to sell the cultural relic," Jinhai told sate-run Xinhuanews agency.

金海對國家媒體新華社說,“有些人甚至出高價購買這把劍,但我覺得出售文物是非法的行為”。

After considering his options, the father sent the sword to the Gaoyou Cultural Relics Bureau on September 3.

經過考慮後,男孩的父親于93號將這把劍送到了高郵市文物局

The bureau arranged a joint team of local cultural relics experts to identifythe sword. They identified sword's material, length, shape and other majorfactors.

文化局安排當地文物專家組成團隊來鑒別這把劍。他們對劍的材質、長度、形狀和其他主要因素進行了鑒定。

Initial identifications found the26-cm-long yellow-brown sword could be dated back to more than 3,000 years ago, around the time of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, said Lyu Zhiwei, head of thecultural relics office of the bureau.

文物局文物辦公室的LyuZhiwei說,最初的鑒定表明,這把26釐米長的黃棕色劍可追溯至三千多年前的商周時期。

"There was no characteristic ordecorative pattern on the exquisite bronze sword. Made in a time of relativelylow productivity, its owner would have been an able man with the qualificationto have such artifact," he said.

他說,“這把精緻的青銅劍上沒有任何特徵,也沒有裝飾圖案。這把劍是在生產率低下的時期製成的,擁有一定身份的人才有佩戴這把青銅劍的資格”。

"The short sword seems a status symbol of a civil official. It has both decorative and practical functions, but is not in the shape of sword for military officers," he said. It is the second bronze artifact found in the region after a bronze instrument was excavated in the nearby Sanduo Township.

他說,“這把短劍應該是文官的身份象徵。它兼具裝飾性和實用性,但劍的形狀說明不是武官所用”。這是當地發現的第二件青銅器,之前,附近的三垛鎮挖掘了一件青銅樂器。

多數發現都純屬偶然

The sword can be preserved as NATIOINALTREASURE. This is a fantastic discovery.

這把劍可以被當做國家財富來保存。這是個不可思議的發現。

Probably this boy was the owner of this sword 3000 years back and therefore he stumbled upon it in this birth.

或許三千年前這個男孩就是這把劍的主人,因此他才會在今生偶然發現這把劍。

GOOD TO SEE WHAT A LOVE TOWARDS HIS NATIONINTEGRITY .........IF HE WANTED MONEY HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BILLIONAIRE BUT HE DID LIKE A MAN........

很高興看到他如此愛國。。。。如果他要錢的話,他已經是億萬富翁了,但他以一個人應該具備的品質處理了這件事。。。。

Morgan (Australia) repliesto Jaya Chandra Royal
One can reasonably assume that the government would have paid something for such an artifact

按理來說,大家可以猜到政府會給發現這把劍的人報酬的。

That boy should be given a prize for thiswonderful discovery

那個發現青銅劍的男孩應該得到獎勵。

Wow thats a marvellous discovery indeed andmay rewrite the history as we know it

哇,這太不可思議了。的確稱得上是發現,可能會改寫我們已知道的歷史

My Comment:
This is an interesting thread. Because it is a news of China written in English, but translated back to Chinese by member of ltaaa. So the most obvious bilingual element here is the English original and Chinese translation. For example, the name of people and region was translated to Pinyin, "Jiangsu" for "江蘇", " Yang Jinhai " for "楊金海".

Besides, I seriously doubt that the original text of the English thread was translated directly from a Chinese news article. For example, the word " sate-run " seldom appears in English article, but "國營" is a common word used in Chinese. The word " Gaoyou Cultural Relics Bureau " is also a strange word in English, but if we look at its Chinese translation "高郵市文物局", the word is then understandable. Words like "flocking to Yang's home" is translated to "蜂擁而至" ,it is a very appropriate translation.

Other than that, some Chinese sentences in this thread are not fluent. It is because sometimes the author just translate English literally, like he translate "poor farmer lost a chance to become rich in a country haunted by the communist rich men" to "這個貧窮的農民失去了在一個富有GCD人操控的國家成為富人的機會". The Chinese sentence seems clumsy as he used English sentence structure to write Chinese sentence.

Moreover, "GCD" stands for "Communist Party" "共產黨(Gong Chan Dang)",because of the censorship in China, people would avoid using words relate to politic.

  1. The sword doesn't look as cool as those we see on TV. I wonder if the blade is sharp enough to poke through somebody
