Self Introduction (Chan Ki Yan, Melody)

Hello everybody! My name is Chan Ki Yan who is a year 1 student of the Faculty of Arts. Every time when I introduced myself as "I'm Melody." to all of you, then at the next moment, most of you asked me, "Do you like the cartoon character Melody very much?". And I will keep repeating that I don't love it at all, because my favourite cartoon is Stitch! My mum loves Melody when I was a child (actually she loves it until now), that's why I got this name.

大家好！我是陳祈欣， 是文學院的一年級新生。每次當我向大家作自我介紹時，我都會跟大家說：「我是melody」，而語音剛落，你們大部份人都會問我：「你很喜歡那隻卡通melody嗎？」那時我又只好繼續重覆回答著，我最愛的卡通是超級十分非常可愛的史迪仔，而不是那隻粉紅兔，哈哈，我之所以有這幼稚的英文名字，是因為我媽媽在我小時候已經很喜歡melody，直到現在她還像個大細路，喜歡買melody的東西。

This is Stitch, the cutest thing in the world! Although I love it so much, when I saw some fake products(mostly in a very light blue colour), I still think that it's ugly. Also, I don't like this guy's girlfriend史迪女! (I even don't know it's girlfriend's name, haha)

這就是世上最可愛的外星生物haha但無可否認，有時在街上看到有些冒牌貨(多數是超淺藍色！)，我還是會覺得很醜！還有就是，我很不喜歡這隻可愛卡通的女朋友史迪女，哈哈，他們一對的東西我也比較少買。

Some people think that I am a gentle girl, who is quiet and shy. For this saying, I could just show a little agreement. Actually, I love talking and sharing different kinds of things with others. And the friends who knew me for a long time would say that I'm definitely a crazy girl. However, I am still shy when speaking in front of a class of people, because I would feel afraid that I will make mistake. Therefore, the teachers always encouraged me to be more confident.

有些人在剛認識我時，會覺得我是一個很斯文的乖乖女，很安靜、很害羞。對於這說法，我只認同當中的一小部份。其實我很愛說話，很愛跟身邊的人分享日常生活的大小事。無聊的、重要的，我都愛跟我身邊的朋友們分享。熟悉我的人都會說我是一個瘋狂的人(我的行為和說話真的沒有邏輯可言，很無聊的事也就夠我笑一整天，而且我很貪玩，常令我的朋友很無語，哈哈)。不過，我的這一面只局限於在我的朋友面前，對著一大班我不熟悉甚至是不認識的人，我會很害怕在他們面前說話，我怕出醜於人前。所以，中學很多老師都常鼓勵我要有多點自信。

I love words more than speaking. I always think that words in both Chinese and English are more beautiful than say it out loud. I love writing in Chinese, the structure, the order and the use of vocabulary can definitely change the expression and the meaning of the sentence. That's why I enjoy writing with my own words and record my life. However, I just like to keep my writing in secret, because i think if people read some of them, they may think that it's quite hypocritical.

我愛文字多於說話。我總覺得不論是中英文，文字都比說話美麗得多。所以我喜歡寫作，用文字表達我的所思所想。中文的結構、排序和用詞，能影響著整句句子的意思和表達。我認為這就是文字的奇妙之處。不過，我寫的東西常常九唔搭八，書面語與口語的也有，所以我寫的大部份只會給自己以後看回，並不會與大眾分享。而且還有一個挺重要的原因就是，我覺得有些人如果看到我寫的一些東西，會覺得很矯情，哈哈。

I can't use such a brief self-introduction to let you know all the things about me, but I am welcome to let you know more. So, I'm looking forward to communicate more with you guys during the lessons and surely outside the classroom. Come Hall WHC to find me and talk with me, you will find a different Melody!
